Carbon Steel Castings
Carbon steel investment castings
Carbon steel castings are extensively used in industries including agricultural, weapons, and automotive due to its strength, durability, and moderate machinability. Carbon steel is harder than stainless steel or aluminum, making it more brittle and difficult to bend.
Carbon steel's main disadvantage, depending on the application, is a lack of corrosion resistance due to its low chromium concentration. For investment castings that will be exposed to water or corrosive environments, we recommend using a different alloy, like stainless steel 304.
Carbon steel is a cost-effective alloy for high-volume investment castings, as long as there is no risk of corrosion.
