Stainless Steel Casting Process
All stainless steel investment castings start with a wax pattern created using a specialized tool. To make a ceramic mold, the pattern is dipped in a sand and slurry combination and then dried. The mold is then "dewaxed" using a high-pressure technique that melts the wax and reveals a hollow ceramic shell. Molten stainless steel is poured into the shell. After the metal has hardened and the shell has been removed, the casting might go through final procedures like sandblasting and quality inspection before being transferred to other services like machining and heat treating, if necessary.
